The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, welcomed approximately 45 students and academic staff from Universitas Alma Ata (UAA), Indonesia, for an academic visit and knowledge-sharing session on 1 October 2026.

The visit, held from 9.00 am to 11.00 am, provided an opportunity for the UAA delegation and SPM academic staff to engage in discussions on public health, academic programmes, research, and opportunities for future collaboration. The visit was part of an academic mobility initiative between Universitas Alma Ata and Universiti Malaya.
The session began with a welcome and introduction between the delegation and representatives of Universiti Malaya. Prof. Victor Hoe, APACPH Secretary General and Head of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, shared an overview of the department and its academic and research activities, followed by sharing sessions and discussions with SPM lecturers.
The engagement concluded with discussions on potential areas of future collaboration, including opportunities for joint research, academic activities and strengthening institutional linkages between Universitas Alma Ata and Universiti Malaya.

The engagement reflects the importance of international academic mobility and institutional networking in strengthening public health education and research capacity. Such exchanges provide opportunities for educators and future public health professionals to learn from different contexts, share approaches and develop meaningful academic partnerships.
As a regional network dedicated to advancing public health education, research and collaboration across the Asia-Pacific, APACPH welcomes initiatives that strengthen connections among academic institutions and create opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaborative action.
The APACPH Secretariat extends its appreciation to the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Universiti Malaya, and Universitas Alma Ata for facilitating this academic exchange and looks forward to seeing further opportunities for collaboration that contribute to the development of the public health workforce and improved population health across the region.
