APACPH General Assembly 2026 Strengthens Governance, Financial Sustainability and Institutional Engagement

21 October 2026 | The Magic School of Green Technologies, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan

The Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) held its General Assembly on 21 October 2026 at the Magic School of Green Technologies, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, in conjunction with the 57th APACPH Conference.

The meeting brought together APACPH Executive Council members, institutional representatives and observers from across the Asia-Pacific region to review the consortium’s activities, financial management, conference governance and strategic developments.

Opening Address and Institutional Engagement

The General Assembly commenced with an opening address by Professor Dr Hung-Yi Chiou, President of APACPH, followed by introductions from Executive Council and General Assembly members.

The meeting gave representatives of member institutions an opportunity to strengthen professional relationships and reaffirm their commitment to regional collaboration in public health education, research, and practice.

To promote efficient meeting management, individual Regional Directors’ Reports were not presented separately, as these had already been circulated through the APACPH Annual Report. This approach allowed more time for discussions on strategic priorities and matters requiring General Assembly consideration.

Conference, Financial and Journal Reports

Professor Dr Maznah Dahlui, Vice-President (Administration), presented a summary of the 57th APACPH Conference, highlighting key aspects of the scientific programme and conference organisation.

Professor Dr Betty Ya-Wen Chiu, Vice-President (Finance), presented the Financial Report, providing an overview of APACPH’s financial position and financial management.

The General Assembly also received an update on the Asia-Pacific Journal of Public Health (APJPH), presented by Dr Akira Shibanuma, outlining matters relating to the journal and its continued contribution to disseminating public health research.

Strengthening Conference Governance and Organisational Sustainability

A key outcome of the General Assembly was the endorsement of the updated APACPH Conference Terms of Reference (TOR), presented by Professor Dr Victor Hoe, Secretary-General of APACPH.

The revised TOR provides an updated framework for organising and managing future APACPH conferences, with an emphasis on strengthening governance, financial sustainability, institutional responsibilities, and continuity.

The General Assembly also discussed initiatives to strengthen APACPH’s digital presence and enhance communication across its network of member institutions.

Enhancing the APACPH Website and Member Participation

The Secretary-General also presented updates to the APACPH website, including new features that will enable institutional representatives to contribute content and update information about their institutions.

These enhancements aim to encourage greater participation from member institutions, facilitate the sharing of academic activities and public health initiatives, and strengthen communication and collaboration within the APACPH network.

Participation and Regional Representation

Participants included representatives from universities and public health institutions across Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Thailand, reflecting the consortium’s diverse regional membership.

Moving Forward

The 2026 General Assembly demonstrated APACPH’s commitment to good governance, financial accountability, operational efficiency and greater institutional engagement.

The approval of the updated Conference TOR, the decision to maintain the APACPH website under the consortium’s stewardship, and the introduction of member-driven website updates provide a foundation for stronger organisational sustainability and regional collaboration.

APACPH extends its appreciation to all Executive Council members, General Assembly representatives and observers for their participation, and to National Cheng Kung University and the local organising team for hosting the meeting.
