Celebrating Culture and Connection: Highlights from the 56th APACPH Gala Dinner

As part of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) Conference, the Gala Dinner held on the evening of 5 November brought together delegates from across the region in a festive celebration of cultural heritage and collegiality. Hosted at the Indoor Stadium of Mae Fah Luang University, the event was a vibrant culmination of the week’s academic and professional exchanges.

A Cultural Showcase in a Celebratory Setting

Graciously hosted by Assistant Professor Dr Wipob Suttana, Dean of the School of Health Science at Mae Fah Luang University, the Gala Dinner welcomed all conference participants to an evening filled with traditional Thai hospitality. The event was officially opened by Associate Professor Dr Darunee Wattanasiriwech, Vice President of Mae Fah Luang University, underscoring the institution’s commitment to fostering international collaboration in public health.

Throughout the evening, guests were treated to a rich tapestry of cultural performances. A traditional band performed live local music, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. Two dance ensembles, one a professional troupe and the other composed of talented students from the School of Health Science, captivated the audience with their energetic and graceful performances.

A particularly memorable highlight was the musical performance by Professor Dr So Yoon Kim of Yonsei University College of Medicine, Korea, the President of APACPH, who serenaded the audience with the classic Latin piece Nella Fantasia, bridging cultural expressions and shared joy through music.

A Feast of Flavours and Friendships

In true Thai style, a range of food stalls served an array of local and regional street foods and desserts, allowing guests to experience the culinary richness of northern Thailand. This gastronomic journey complemented the evening’s purpose: to create space for informal networking, to celebrate the collective achievements of the conference, and to foster lasting connections among public health professionals.

Reflections on a Night to Remember

Beyond the entertainment and food, the Gala Dinner served as an important reminder of the role that cultural exchange and informal gatherings play in building trust and solidarity across borders. In the field of public and occupational health, where collaborative approaches are crucial, events like this help strengthen the human connections that underpin our shared mission.
