The APACPH General Assembly in Bandung, Indonesia

The APACPH General Assembly was held at Bandung, Indonesia in conjunction with the 47th APACPH Conference. The APACPH GA is an annual meeting of all the representative of all the member institutions. The APACPH GA was officially opened by Dr Phitaya Charupoonphol from Mahidol University and the President of APACPH.

The main highlights of the meeting are the increased in the APACPH members, the accreditation exercise, the APACPH newsletter, five new APACPH Members institution, the new regional Directors, the revision of the APACPH by-laws and the improvement in the Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health‘s (APJPH) ISI impact factor from 1.111 in 2013 to 1.459 in 2014. The APJPH is also now ranked in the tier-two category in the Public, Environmental and Occupational Health (Social Science) and tier-three in Public, Environmental and Occupational Health (Science) in the Journal Citation Reports® (Thomson Reuters, 2015).

The newly inducted APACPH members institution are

  1. The Islamic State University Syarif Hidayatullah
  2. Mulawarman University
  3. Mahasarakham University
  4. Universiti Putra Malaysia
  5. Burapha University

The revised APACPH by-laws was presented by Prof So Yoon Kim and was discussed in the GA. The by-laws will be uploaded on to the APACPH website (member’s area) for all members to access and provide their comments.

Collaborative Centres Reports

  • Dr Sohee Park provided the report on the International Cyber University for Health (ICUH) and the Public Health Law and Health collaborative centre.
  • Dr Indika Karunathilake provided the report on the Early Career Network (ECN), the ECN is a platform for young public health professionals from members’ institution to collaborate.
  • Dr Osman Ali provided the report on Global Indigenous Health collaborative centre, the centre conducted some research activity among the Orang Asli (Malaysian Indigenous Group) and the post-APACPH symposium on Indigenous Health.
  • Dr R. Surenthirakumaran provided the report on the Oral Cancer Prevention, which is a multi-country cancer study between Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Taiwan. The research has been completed and in the process of publication of the results of the study.

The 48th APACPH Conference will be held in Teikyo University, Tokyo, Japan in 16-19 September 2016.
