Professor Dr Masamine Jimba the\u00a0President of the Japan Association for International Health,\u00a0APACPH President Emeritus was awarded the APACPH Public Health Recognition Award winner during the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health conference held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 8th December 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr<\/strong> Masamine Jimba worked as a physician for two years and subsequently studied public health in Tokyo and Boston. He received his master\u2019s degree from The National Institute of Public Health in Japan in 1989 and PhD from Hamamatsu University School of Medicine in Japan in 1995.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jimba\u2019s research interests cover health promotion, global health, human security, and other broad public health issues in the world.  He has published more than 280 articles and more than 10 book chapters. He is currently interested in positive deviance approach as they show us a way to know hidden truth in real life and support context-specific actions in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jimba has rich experience in the field of global health. From 1994 to 1996, he worked as a WHO Health Coordinator for the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Then, from 1996 to 2001, he worked in rural Nepal as a team leader of the School and Community Health Project by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Japan Medical Association. After coming back to Japan in 2002, he started to work in the University of Tokyo and has been working on health research projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. He is the President of the Japan Association for International Health and the Immediate-Past President of the Asia-Pacific Consortium for Public Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
