Courtesy visit by delegation from Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University to Universiti Malaya

A delegation from the Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University visited the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, and the Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Unit (OSHE) in Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) on the 16 March 2023. The visit was arranged by the team form the Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health (APJPH), Prof Dr Wah Yun Low, Bairave Shunnmugam and Helen Tee.

The delegation was led by the Dean, Assoc Prof Dr Sarawut Thepanondh, and accompanied by the Deputy Dean for International Relations, Assoc Prof Dr Orawan Kaewboonchoo and Deputy Dean for Education Administration, Asst Prof Dr Chaiyanun Tangtong. The purpose of the visit to the department was to discuss on potential collaboration in terms of research and teaching in the field of public health. Dr Nithiah Thangiah shared the organisation and activities of the Centre for Population Health, while Assoc Prof Dr Rafdzah Ahmad Zaki shared the organisation and activities of the Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Practice.

After the visit to the Department, the delegation proceeded to visit the OSHE in UMMC. During the visit, they were brief on the activities of the different sections. Dr Venna Magarita spoke on the function and activities of the health section and the occupational health clinics, Ms Norsyahida Syazwani Mohd Shukri on the safety and environmental section and Zulklifli Omar on the fire safety section. After the briefing and sharing session, the delegates were brought to the Occupational Health Clinic for further briefing and discussion.
