ECN Regional Short Course 2009

It is our pleasure to announce the 2009 Regional Course on

Health Advocacy and Policy Strategies for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases

Date: 12-14 August 2009 (participants are advised to arrive in Manila on 11 August)

Venue: College of Public Health, University of the Philippines, Manila, Philippines.

This short course is to familiarize students with the strategies of public health advocacy and how to translate public health evidence to public health advocacy.

This course will be offered in English only.

Dr. Cherian Varghese (WHO Technical Officer for Non Communicable Disease)

Prof. Marilyn Fe Lorenzo (Health Policy, College of Public Health, University of the Philippines)

Who should take this course?

·Public health professionals

·Public Health Researchers who wish to translate their evidence-base to informing policy and making change

·Staff from Ministries of Health, international and governmental organizations wanting to see how evidence can be translated into reforming program policies  

 

 What is the cost?

There is no charge for the course but participants are expected to pay about USD $200 per person for 3 days.  It is receommended that participants budget at least USD$300-400 for accommodation, and meals. Participants are responsible for all of their travel expenses and incidentals such as laundry, personal phone calls, faxes, Internet or email usage, and shipping of personal items from the course.

The accommodation provided will cost about USD$45 per day and includes breakfast. Please budget for a 4 day stay depending on flight itinerary.

There will be tours which will be co-ordinated by course organizers to key locations such as Health Promotion department and Anti-tobacco campaign officers in Manila (TBA).  This will be funded by ECN with arrangements by the organizers.

Participants are encouraged to secure financial aid from ministries of health, WHO and universities. Please note that entry into Philippines requires a Visa only if your wishing to stay longer than 21 days.
