» News - EU Platform for action on diet, physical activity and health

The EU Platform for action on diet, physical activity and health has brought together key players from industry, NGOs, doctors' associations and consumer groups to enter into binding but voluntary commitments as part of an effort to halt and reverse obesity trends.

Since its launch in 2005 a total of 146 commitments for new actions to fight obesity have been made and are being implemented by Platform members. They range from the promotion of healthy lifestyles to the provision of greater nutritional information and the restriction of advertising to young children.

Codex Alimentarius
The Codex Alimentarius Commission was created in 1963 by FAO and the World Health Organization to develop food standards, guidelines and related texts such as codes of practice under the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme. The main purposes of this Programme are protecting health of the consumers and ensuring fair trade practices in the food trade, and promoting coordination of all food standards work undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.

This guide has been compiled by UNICEF and the World Health Organization to help health managers strengthen nutrition activities within their programmes.
